Building the Mouse

The Mouse can be built in just 12-24 hours using a kitchen table and basic materials. The main hull is made from 1/4in hardwood ply, with the decks and frames requiring an extra half sheet.

The framing can be made from 1Ɨ1/2in pine, or any other cheap lumber. The stitch and glue used should be epoxy and glass tape, although cheaper alternatives like polyurethane may also work.

Features and Benefits

The Mouse has several features that make it a great DIY project:

  • The enclosed stern and bow areas provide emergency flotation, making it a safe and stable boat.
  • The decking and enclosed frames provide a comfortable and secure ride.
  • The boat is easy to build and can be completed in just a few days.

Sailing Version

A sailing version of the Mouse is in the works, but be warned: with its narrow beam, it will require considerable skill to sail.

Downloadable Files

The Mouse comes with a range of downloadable files, including:

  • A GIF showing the lines of the boat
  • Construction details in GIF and DXF formats
  • Coordinates for cutting out the ply material for the hull and decking
  • A table of offsets for the Mouse
  • A Hulls file for the Mouse

All drawings are copyright Gavin Atkin, Tunbridge Wells, March 2001.
